I'm Rachel McAlpine I've been fostered since I was 8 months old luckily for myself I have been fostered by my nan so have been able to live in a stable home. Not every child that gets fostered are in a stable living arrangements or children who are in care. Once 18 the council believe that the adolescent is an adult, many adolescents when they turn 18 are still in full time education, myself I will have just started my second year of college then turn 18, the system beilieves that you can now support yourself how can you support yourself when 5 days out of the week are occupied with education. The adolescent has two options to "stay put" or to move out into there own place, if the adolescent decides to "stay put" if they are in education they will support them however if the adolescent is motivated and has there self a part time job they can not get support. A part time job would not cover the amount of money that would be required, the adolescent would have several options, quit there job to be able to gain support, leave education to be able to work a full time job or struggle. Surely it's a good thing that the adolescent is motivated enough to get there self a part time job and we should be supporting them to fulfil there dreams not those that can not be bothered and purely rely on the support of the government when they are fit enough for work. So please would you sign this petition in order to support those that have not had the best start in life but are trying to make it as best as they can.
