It is none polluting... interesting that no one protests the hoards of hotel desecrating the oceanfront, but this but this inanimate object that will be an educational boon for the entire world gets the protests

ntelligent observation of the stars is what brought the ancient Hawaiians to these islands. The Polynesians are still the finest celestial navigators in the world. While I do sympathize with the "protectors" that are demonstrating, I want to see my children and grandchildren (who are part Hawaiian) succeed and flourish in the future. There were many public forums addressing the observatory and I ask why there wasn't more dialog at those times. Mauna Kea was used as an adz quarry in ancient times. Would this telescope not be considered a tool as well?

Ancient Hawaiians were great at fishing and astronomy. Current Hawaiians now use motorized boats to fish, why can't they use telescopes for astronomy? Plus I think boats do more damage to the delicate Hawaiian ecosystem.
