The Southampton university squash courts were built back in 1964 and since then have had very little proper restoration work done to them baring one restoration in 1990.

Every time cracks appear they are just filled in with normal plaster which just falls out again after less than a month. This does nothing to fix the walls and just puts more dust on the floors which are becoming a safety hazard. In adition to this some of the floorboards are beginning to warp resulting in huge gaps between the sidewall and the floor and some gaps between the floor boards themselves.

Please sign this petition so that we can take it to our union and get the courts properly renovated.

The administration remains silent despite the clear safety hazards on the court floors. Post the link to your Facebook feed today and email the student union president to demand they inspect these walls.

The momentum behind this push to fix our courts is proving that the student body demands safe facilities. Take this momentum and email your student union representative to demand a meeting about this disrepair today.

The University financial year ends 5th April. Each department has to submit their budgets shortly for the 2015/16 year. Maintenance budgets have been cut enormously in the last few years, so if you want them to allocate monies for refurbishment of the squash courts, I would suggest that you (a) set up a meeting between SUSU, Sport & Wellbeing and Estates early March (b) At the meeting you submit the refurbishment costs (given to you by England Squash who have visited the courts and put in their recommendations) (c) As money is tight, perhaps the Squash Club would be able to assist with the funding from their coffers (d) A closer working relationship with Sport & Wellbeing would be well advised for future goodwill.

People will drift away from the sport if the courts are not properly maintained, get them fixed

I play on these courts regularly, and the poor conditions affect my match satisfaction, and dusty, slippery floors worry me that i may come of court with injuries

The courts are the worst they've been in my 4 years at uni, to the point where I often slip or trip during games now.

The state of the courts is shocking. Southampton will never be able to seriously compete with other universities unless they are properly refurbished

Hugely needed! The courts are becoming increasingly dangerous. A very important cause considering the amount they are used by hundreds of university students!

I use the courts several times each semester, the state of them is pretty poor and a renewal would be great.
