Support the Laney FabLab
The Laney FabLab needs your support in finding a new on-campus home!
For the past three years the FabLab has grown and integrated itself into the lives of Laney College students. More and more students every semester depend on the equipment and know-how of the friendly staff to create almost anything: from hydraulic claws used to demonstrate engineering principles, to beautiful furniture for student homes, to Halloween costumes and holiday gifts. Students who use the space find rewarding jobs in advanced manufacturing or go on to create small businesses of their own. Faculty and staff from more than 30 different departments are finding the FabLab critical to successfully teach and inspire their students. New Laney students are even falling in love with the trades and deciding to pursue a Career in Technical Education certificate after they use the FabLab.
A bigger space can allow us to explore partnerships to add more services for students, and bring more visibility for work that happens in the FabLab and elsewhere on campus.
Those who visit the FabLab know we use a very tiny space in the back of the theater. Simply put, we need to move into a bigger space to:
- Accommodate our growing student users
- Expand the number and types of machines we have
- Accommodate whole classes, or multiple classes at once
- Have a design studio separate from the fabrication lab
Please sign and share this petition to convince our campus administrators to find the FabLab a new, bigger home. We can't do it without you!
