Australian immigration law appears inflexible without descretion in special/worthy cases. However, the means does exist to help the Grandisons by means of a Ministerial Order but you have to enlist the help of your local Fed MP

I also support the Grandisons permanent residency status being approved. It is very likely that they will continue to be gainfully employed and contribute financially to our system therefore be unlikely to need support for much more than the health system can afford to offer their son as should be offered to any human disabled or otherwise.
How can this not have been tried before a court before this on the basis of discrimination? This immigration law has been applied not in the written context in this situation but is being interpreted incorrectly by the public service administering it.

What a beautiful family, I wishes they lived next door to me. There is no cost to the government as the family is caring for their son. The loss of the family to the community also has other ramifications. We lose a respected doctor and community volunteer. Aren't we crying out for good doctors? And people that give up their free time to volunteer to assist others are worth their weight in gold.

Dr grandison has been the most amazing support and fantastic doctor. I recommend him to everyone. He always goes the extra mile for his patients and is never without a smile. We would truly be at a loss without him and his family as part of our community.

I fully support the Grandisons application for residency. There are many parallels with the case of the Kabir family whose son has autism. To date almost 70,000 people have supported their petition on change.org. Once again it appears that the "net benefit" approach as recommended by the Joint Standing Committee Inquiry into the Migration Treatment of Disability. http://www.aph.gov.au/parliamentary_business/committees/house_of_representatives_committees?url=mig/disability/report.htm is being completely ignored.

We are short of GP's and we need a few more educated immigrants instead of non-English-speaking uneducated immigrants.

It would be a loss to our community if the grandsons were not given residency. They ask nothing from the government but give much back.

I have the utmost regard for Dr Grandison, and fully support his family application for permanent residency. His contribution to our society, either as a GP, or as an invaluable member of our community, cannot be overstated. Please approve their application.

Where a family is not only more than able to take care of a child with disabilities, but also have gone out of their way to be a blessing to a community, why are they then not welcome to stay in Queensland, and hopefully at some stage become citizens of Australia, when so many others come in with no intention of fitting into society nor becoming a part of the Australian community as a whole? No, this is obviously a family who are willing to become a part of the whole ... let them stay!
