My husband and I are both Esko graduates. When we were looking for a family home, Esko was the only option for us. We knew we wanted our children to go to school at Esko. The school board and administration made the decision to allow this class to be as large as it is, and now these students need to continue to be supported. This decision will have a lasting impact on these children who are developing readers. Please give these children and the teachers your support. Thank you.

Now more than ever these children need small class sizes. Despite the best efforts of Esko Schools, the reality is that many of these children will be without quality reading experiences, engaging learning activities, and direct stimulation due to the Corona closure. In the best case, homes where parents are not working and able to take an active role In their child’s learning, kids will still lack the interaction of a licensed and trained instructor, not to mention the benefit of peer stimulation. This is a critical time for so many of these children that are just learning to read. We all know about the “Summer Slide”. Statistically all kids lose ground over the summer... now we are potentially doubling summer vacation. Asking our teachers to come back to huge class sizes where children are already behind the expectation is simply setting both teachers and students up for frustration and failure. Now more than ever is the time to act and prove that the interest of our littlest learners is your biggest concern.

One of the best things I had during my tenure at Esko Public Schools was having a small class size. It allowed ample one-on-one time between students and teachers to better develop a foundation for a solid education. I know that Esko ranks very high academically and I would be disappointed to see children not getting that personal education experience that I and my predecessors were so fortunate to have. After I graduated from Esko I moved to a large town where graduating class sizes are so large that average students grades are in the D range, and there have been countless suicides in the past couple years because their students have heavily outweighed the staff's ability to regulate behavior and teaching. Please, please do not increase class sizes at Esko Public Schools.

As a parent of an a struggling reader, I am finding it hard to believe that started next year he may not get the attention or time he needs to practice his reading skills inside and outside of the classroom. I am thankful for the smaller class size this year and the early intervention that has happened, thus far. As an Esko Alumni it is hard to imagine that my child could miss out on the true educational value of the Eskomo way.
