Many MAGs (Metagenome assembled genomes) likely have chimeras. Pure culture derived genomes are more reliable and less error-prone sequences.

I support the stronger implementation of Candidatus status for uncultured organisms, and believe this proposal better fits the needs of microbiologists than the other proposals based solely on DNA sequences. Beyond disincentivizing cultivation of key microbes, the SeqCode remains a lesser method of bacterial taxonomy as it relies merely on one approach: phylogentics, and purposely has no quality quotas. Such disregard to biological form and function completely shifts focus of what taxonomy is intended to to: diagnose living organisms. Moreover, the lack of extreme quality guidelines, makes it so the SeqCode may prescribe many "mirage" or "phantom" taxa due to the inadequate DNA provided. It is my hope that the new ideas proposed here are adopted so that the standing robust system based on living microbes is maintained, while also supporting a path for providing identification (at a particular status) to uncultured clades.
