It is easy to understand that if SeqCode is recognized for ICNP, nobody will obtain living cultures. This is the decline of science.

I support this proposal. I concern that genome sequences can be easily changed and contain some artificial errors.

We have already fought the change of system in Zoology (Zamani et al. 2022 Syst. Zoology) towards DNA-only descriptions in animals, showing that there is a need for an integrative approach, not to describe something which nobody has seen and nobody can compare in the future. Unfortunately, these trends for more faster descriptions are everywhere, not only in Zoology.

A unifed system is definitely better than two parallel ones. Let's give a chance to the novel proposal to demonstrate it works!

I unconditionally support the proposal of "The best of both worlds"; validated standards in microbiology are required and Culture Collections of Microorganisms must maintain deposited biological material available. The genome sequence and biochemical profiles are a complement that cannot replace a cultivable living organism.

I strongly support the "Best of Both Worlds" proposal, and cannot even imagine any validated standards in which deposited and available (if they can be cultivated) microorganisms are not required.

I am adding my name as a representative of the Nomenclature Committee for Algae, helping to maintain the International Code of Nomenclature for Algae, Fungi, and Plants. This matter concerns also Cyanobacteria, which are currently covered by both ICn and ICNP. Recently, both Codes were harmonizes, but SeqCode represents a danger of large confusion in the nomenclature of Cyanobacteria and other bacterial groups.

Best of Both Worlds will help taxonomists to explore the hidden both culture-dependent and culture-independent prokaryotic taxa.
