The incentive to culture and deposit type strains is essential for many aspects and the proposal accomodates genomic data, as well.

I strongly support the "Best of Both Worlds" proposal for all the good arguments given in the proposal.

This change will cause confusion. If a change is required, as more similar sounding name should be used in order to minimise this. In a similar way to the change that occurred with C. difficile.

Access to publicly available type strains is a needed reference/standard within a species for experimental bacteriology; however, this process is more laborious than genome sequencing alone. The proposed "best of both worlds" provides authors of Candidatus names (either from single strain WGS or metagenomic WGS) with continued recognition allowing for the rapid pace of modern genome-based studies while still providing the incentive for the deposition of validly published type strains. Therefore, I support the "best of both worlds" solution.

A sequence-only description prevents lower-resourced facilities from identifying these new microorganisms, whereas a polyphasic description allows many different labs to recognize and identify them. ICSP should not consider names based only on sequence as valid.
