The school board finalized the decision to pilot the Spanish immersion program starting next year. We are now transitioning our focus to monitoring the curriculum adoption process to ensure it matches the standards we presented in our proposal.

Final supporters
We, the undersigned parents and community members, call on the Irvine Unified School District to provide Spanish immersion in elementary school beginning in the 2015-2016 school year.
We call on the district to implement one of the proven immersion models for children whose first language is English, Spanish or another language. These include full and partial immersion models where the approved curriculum is taught in Spanish for all or half of the school day.
Language immersion schools are highly valued and proven to be successful in other communities. We believe Spanish immersion instruction at the elementary level will bring significant academic, cross-cultural and economic benefits to Irvine, especially considering the increasing population of Spanish speakers in the United States and in California.
Our vision is an Irvine Unified School District that nurtures early development of bilingual or multilingual children who excel academically across subjects, interact effectively with people from different cultures, and compete successfully in the global marketplace. Early language immersion is critical to realizing this vision in our world class school district.

The momentum generated by this petition has prompted a response from the Irvine Unified School District administration. We have secured a meeting with the assistant superintendent to present our research on specific immersion models. I am currently finalizing the formal proposal documents to ensure our session remains focused on feasible implementation strategies.

We are moving from Seattle, WA and our raising 1st grader and preschooler are currently in a Spanish immersion school. We are having a difficult time finding a school that offers it. The schools that do offers it have filled their classes already. It would nice to have more options to choose from.
I would love for my child to be in a Spanish immersion program. We speak Spanish at home, but have noticed that she leans toward english when she does´ hear Spanish enough. We need to encourage Spanish in the school system, as it has various applicabilities to the 'real' world.
Irvine is behind the times. I've already sent one child out of district to a public dual language 90% immersion program. I love it. The overall education is phenomenal and my child be prepared for a 21st century California and world.
I am excited about this and hope that you succeed! I have two children enrolled at Gates Elementary's two way program and am the bilingual authorization coordinator at UCI's School of Education. We will definitely send you bilingual teachers from our multiple subject program!

Too many proven benefits for Irvine to not have this as an educational option. Our children deserve this option just like the children in Mission Viejo, San Clemente, Santa Ana, Tustin, Costa Mesa, Yorba Linda, Anaheim...I could go on but you get the point.
