As fellow members and friends of The Country Club of Scranton, we wish to express our strong support for Mr. Shamus McGuigan to be thoughtfully considered for a management-level position as our Club moves forward in light of Mr. Ryan Janesko’s announced departure.

For over two decades, Shamus has been an integral part of the Club’s daily life and culture. Having begun his career here as a young caddie and progressing through nearly every department—including the bag room, locker room, and food and beverage—Shamus has grown into a trusted and highly respected leader as our Golf Shop Manager. Through his steady professionalism, approachability, and deep understanding of the membership, Shamus has helped maintain the welcoming and high-standard atmosphere that defines The Country Club of Scranton.

Shamus has been recognized multiple times by the Club and its members for his dedication and excellence, having been featured in the Club newsletter as the recipient of the Outstanding Contribution Award and honored twice as a recipient of the J. Wood Platt Caddy Scholarship. These recognitions reflect his longstanding service, teamwork, and positive influence across all aspects of Club life.

His contributions go far beyond operational excellence. Shamus is admired for his character, humility, and commitment to others. He leads by example—whether mentoring younger staff, assisting members with genuine care, or maintaining the smooth and successful operation of the Golf Shop. His military service with the 101st Airborne Division, followed by his continued education and professional growth, speaks to his integrity, discipline, and lifelong dedication to improvement.

Outside the Club, Shamus is a devoted husband and father to two children, an active member of our community, and a reflection of the very values this Club stands for: loyalty, respect, and service.

We, the undersigned members, believe that Shamus McGuigan’s proven leadership, loyalty, and longstanding commitment to the Club make him an ideal candidate for consideration in a management-level role—whether as General Manager or within the broader leadership team. His understanding of our traditions, his ability to connect with both members and staff, and his consistent professionalism have earned him the trust and admiration of the membership.
