I have been spending my summers on Sunrise Beach my entire life (almost 40 years) and I loved every moment on the beautiful beach. My son actually learned to walk on its beautiful shores. Now as my young neices and nephews start to come it is such a shame they have no beach left to enjoy - especially at high tide. We are having to walk all the way down to 9th and even then scramble to "beat the high tide" lest be tied to the beach wall for hours. There are solutions!! Civil engineers and erosion scientists have researched effective strategies to manage beach erosion; as for Sunrise Beach (tide carries sand North) - jetties and sand renourishment are the most effective solution to restore and maintain the beach. As soon as the jetties were allowed to fall into disrepair our loss of sand grew exponentially. Bring back the jetties starting with the longest on the southern most end and then increasingly shorter...then replenish the sand in the southern end. Sand will still travel, but at a much slower rate. Then in five to ten years retrieve the sand and bring it back. The jetties will also break up waves and help keep the seawall in place. Hire an engineer that is capable of drafting plans to save and maintain our BEACHES!

I've been coming to this beach my whole life - over 30 years. My family had been coming for over 50. We would love to see the sand back and to be able to bring our kids to enjoy this great place!!

Save the beach by replenishing the sand. Don't let all the hard work and millions spent go out to sea.
