Support Roseburn-West Coates Protected Cycle Route

I believe that the best route is down the main Roseburn/West Coates route as it is both the most direct/encouraging for cycling and will improve the environment of Roseburn & West Coates.

I fully support this protected cycle route. People using bikes as transport deserve to have safe, direct routes to where they are going.

I would love to be able to cycle directly and safely from the east end of the city centre to Haymarket and to the shops in Roseburn. I never shop there now as it is a hostile environment for pedestrians and cyclists.

I agree with most of the comments here about the value of the route to the local area and walkers as well as cyclists. However, a separate point which hasn't been mentioned is the danger of the narrow tramline section on the alternative route, at Haymarket Yards. I know 2 people who have been injured here in tramline crashes. One emailed this, " Two passerbys helped me off the road and I got a taxi home with my bike (which had a buckled front wheel from the crash). I sprained an ankle and a wrist, and seem to have caused more serious damage to my knee as it still hasn't recovered now - i can't put pressure on the top of my knee without pain. I was a week into cycling from home to work and trying to replace my daily commute with a bike when I crashed. I haven't cycled to work since, as the crash shook me up quite a bit and I need to find an alternate route that doesn't involve tram tracks, as I won't go near those things again."

I would regularly use the Roseburn to Haymarket section but tend not to use the existing wiggling route because it is slow and the trams and tram lines make it even slower. Instead I use the main road but a segregated cycle path would be far better, especially as I cycle with children.

As a business owner, I'm keen to see a protected cycle route here because evidence shows it will increase business.

I strongly support the proposed new cycle route. Most of the petitions against are being driven by one or two cafes in roseburn. Surely there will be an arrangement for them to get their deliveries.

I can't see the proposed route as harming local business, as I am always looking out for shops next to my cycle routes.

This is a key part of a joined-up cycle network, and vital for encouraging the active travel we need to encourage in Edinburgh. The existing NCN1 isn't a practical alternative. What those other small Northern European nations that we want to emulate (Denmark/Holland) do?

Every single study shows that when you implement a protected cycle route, passing trade *increases*. I really hope the businesses along this route can be shown the facts, not rhetoric.

We need to encourage cyclists, and studies show segregated cycle paths are one of the best ways to do so. The Roseburn route is a great idea, don't vitiate it by making cyclists go the long way around.

I have two children attending Roseburn Primary School and a third will be going in a couple of years. I walk this route every day from Haymarket to Roseburn then on to Gogarburn by bicycle. I've been to one of the consultations by Atkins. I use the cafes on Roseburn Terrace. I am really looking forward to the full scheme being implemented and Edinburgh becoming the most bicycle and pedestrian friendly city in the UK!

Surely the future. Less cars, more active travel and public transport. Great for shops and business

We need more and more of this kind of initiative rather than finding spurious reasons not to do it. Cut cars, cut congestion - walk the city, bike the city, bus the city.

Time and time again it has been shown that developments like this increase footfall. If parking spaces are needed for disabled people then they can be put in.

We should be working hard to reduce the number of cars not finding excuses to keep them on the road. I am for this project.

Fully support this. It will bring in trade not discourage it. Put a cycle parking rail on your shop front, ask for bike Sheffields on the odd bits of pavement at junctions and you'll attract more customers that one parking place!
