Support Roseburn-West Coates Protected Cycle Route

I cycle regularly through Roseburn and it is often a scary experience, being able to cycle safely would make a big difference

the usual myopic, selfish, NIMBYisms will apply, I support this action, regardless of those who will not live long enough to see their grandchildrens children benefit.

Yes it would be great to have a protected cycle lane

Roseburn is congested enough at peak times without adding something to restrict it even more.

Have been hospitalised and nearly killed by a road rage driver while cycling in Edinburgh I think that a segregated Cycle path through West Edinburgh in a great Idea, I would personally use this route a lot more and visit the shops by cycle. I do not like to bring my car into the centre if at all possible. I hope the council check the 'facts' put forward by those campaigning against this great scheme

It is important to have safe cycle lanes in busy areas. Very often cycle paths disappear when the road gets narrow busy. This is very dangerous!

Direct routes encourage cycling and walking. Good cycle routes that are visible to everyone feel safer and will increase footfall in my view. Part of the change we need to make active travel visible.

Local business is the lifeblood of a community.

This proposal will create the spine of a network of pleasant, safe and direct cycle routes through Edinburgh city centre and beyond. It will link current and planned segregated cycle routes, encouraging modal switch with all the resulting health, air pollution, economic development and greenhouse gas emission reduction benefits. Well done City of Edinburgh Council for pursuing an achievable, cost effective and forward-thinking cycle infrastructure scheme.

I want to use the services provided by businesses in the Roseburn area. However, as it stands, the existing infrastructure makes this a highly unpleasant experience and as a direct result I do not visit the area that often. Car based solutions are not the answer and neither is pushing cyclists down Balbirnie Place and Haymarket Yards. This proposal, if implemented, would make it vastly easier and in my opinion safer for to visit this area. In turn enabling me to support the local businesses there.

What need is there?

instead of reassuring them, why don't you encourage the ECC to contractually guarantee that their business will not be adversely affected.

There are so many problems with this proposal it is hard to know where to start. It will create a massive traffic problem in a primary artery which will not only be bad for Edinburgh's economy but also damage the public transport links running through the west if the city. This will also make roseburn, murrayfield and west Coates less pleasant. It will certainly damage business in roseburn - to say otherwise is ignorant of the type of trade which exists there. You only have to sit in the roseburn cafe for twenty minutes any weekday mornin to see that it is completely reliant on tradesman, who park up for their mid morning break. And are the cyclists likely to pull in for a curry or a pot of chicken fried rice? Or an elaborate three tier wedding cake? But most importantly, this is unneeded. I am a cyclist and I can say with absolute conviction that the most distressing part of cycling along that section of road is the potholes, not the traffic. If the ecc had a raft of cyclists queueing up to jump on their bikes as soon as this project was complete I might think there was something honest about all this. But it is obvious what is really going on. This is all about council members getting their names in lights. It's a vanity project. It's a chance to use terms like Copenhagen crossing, or whatever such nonsense terms are the current fad. And it gains traction because it ties neatly into the city's war on cars. To even go through this consultation is a disgraceful misuse of public funds. Do your jobs. Fix the roads and then leave us alone.

I support improved infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians. I think it makes the city a more pleasant, healthier and safer place to be. I would like to reassure shopkeepers and businesses that I would be much more likely to visit their area of there was a safe cycling route.

I live here and I support the originally proposed route. I am opposed to the alternative route via Haymarket Yards.

Edinburgh needs more bikes, less traffic.

This needs to be done. Think of the extra custom the businesses will get from cyclists being channelled past their front doors at slower speeds.

Totally required, current provisions for cycling are very indirect and the current cycle/bus lanes on road are very potholed. It to s a very busy route and I think would encourage more cyclists if made safer and more accessible.
