Desperately needed in this part of Edinburgh!

We may not yet be able to move beyond delivery vans, but the motor car is perhaps the most selfish use of the public realm yet invented. An area like Roseburn, densely populated and perfectly situated for public transport, but heavily trafficked—noisy, smelly and unsafe—is also perfectly situated for access by bike if it could be connected more safely and conveniently.

I live locally and I've shopped there by car precisely once (to collect an order) - the rest of the time the current layout is a disincentive to shop there, making it harder to visit both sides of the street and in general a noisy, traffic-rackety experience. When my child is walking rather than in a pushchair it will become a scary hazard rather than a nice place to shop (running out into busy traffic). Slowing down traffic and making more space available for slow users like bikes and pedestrians can only enhance the amenity of the road.

How much of the parking is taken up by shopkeepers rather than customers. We need to prioritise schemes which encourage people to get out of their metal boxes and live in the space they are passing through. Cyclists spendore than drivers

More of these human-friendly active transport things.

This cycle route should be supported. The council is to be congratulated on this initiative. Change will not please everyone, but this is needed and will make a real and positive difference to so many people.

People need to change their attitudes about cycling as a viable mode of transport. Cars and trucks have had it their own way for too long. I regularly cycle or drive or walk to Roseburn and Haymarket to visit hairdressers and Sandwich shops. Much better by bike, but I'm so aware of the dangers on the road at present.

We live near these shops and always go there on foot or cycle. The protected cycle way will greatly improve cycling around this part of the city.

A safe and direct route into the city centre from the West is a must if anything is to be done about the atrocious conditions - heavy traffic, along that particular corridor.

I would like to be able to cycle into the city centre. At the moment i drive any time I go as there is not a safe route to cycle.

A safe direct cycle route will increase active travel, reduce congestion and pollution, and increase business activity. This has been shown in many cities across the world and Edinburgh can follow these examples.

Edinburgh is a European City and needs a European response and attitude to cycling. This route is exactly what we need.

This is an important link for cycling in the West of the city. It could bring a significant number of shoppers to Roseburn as they pass through. It is much easier to park a bike than a car...

The proposals with a segregated bike lane will benefit the whole area and make it much more attractive. Surely the shops will welcome the opportunity to attract more people on bikes and on foot, as these are much more likely to stop. It would eg be an ideal place to have something to eat on a tour to the zoo.
