Edinburgh has an extensive network of cycleways on post-industrial routes (former railways and canals), however these do not connect so are not a useful transport network. This route is one which will connect the North Edinburgh path network to the city centre, opening it up to many more families, and anyone who is currently put off cycling on the busy route west from Haymarket.

Hope CEC will take note of the many voices in support of the proposals shown here.

This area could be lovely but because of the horrendous traffic and inability of crossing being possible

We need the upgrade to the main road if we are serious about high quality cycle infrastructure on the most direct and visible routes that people want to take.

There is a dire need for a direct, safe cycle route in this part of town. Businesses win, cyclists win, drivers no longer have to share that bit of road - everyone wins!

aye this is a great idea, I used to live on Roseburn terrace and its a parking blackspot for the same reasons that are touted as concerns.

This would encourage me to visit and shop in Roseburn Terrace. I do presently use the NCN 1 route fairly regularly, but it is a significant detour and takes me well away from the businesses that might want my custom.

I'd definitely spend more time in the area if this plan was introduced - by tram, on foot and on my bike too.

I would visit shops and businesses in Roseburn If this facility was built. It is much easier to park a bike than a car.

We really need a joined up safe cycle network in Edinburgh.

I use this route and would appreciate the improved facilities!

I strongly support the council plan and wish to point out that this is not just a local issue but an important improvement to long-distance cycling traffic through this area. If local shop and small business owners want more customers then cyclists and pedestrians are far more likely to be their clients because they require no parking space and can stop at short notice (even though they typically move much faster than the usual traffic jam...).

I am sure the direct route will improve the local environment for all, including residents, shoppers AND shopkeepers / local businesses. Be brave!

The proposal is excellent for pedestrians too. There will be a new pedestrian crossing added at the tesco end of the Roseburn shops and the pavement will be widened. This will make it easier for pedestrians to access the shops.

I fully support the council plan to improve cycle safety and hence the cycling infrastructure.

An excellent proposal to improve East-West cycle transport in Edinburgh. Yes, change can be a concern for businesses but time and again we have seen cycle lanes improve the urban environment without being to the detriment of local businesses. Why not in Edinburgh?
