I support those brave Catholic priests who are willing to stand up and be counted for the Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ. May they find friendship and support from Bishops, not rebukes!

However well intentioned, Cardinal Kasper's proposals can only eaken marriage and the family in the long term. Our priests should not be censured for voicing their justifiable concern.

The Pope has called for a full debate, and in a free country with a free press, such letters form part of that. If 'we are church', then we all have a part in the debate by every means available, surely?

I sign this to support those faithful priests who wish to uphold the true teachings of the Church. The Church has always as I have been aware in my 70 years to be full of mercy and compassion.

Pope Francis has called on everyone in the Church to engage in a free and open discussion in preparation for the Synod. Let's use all the means of communication available to us in the 21st century to do just that, with no attempts by bishops to stop this free discussion

I'm sure that this is all a misunderstanding, and that the Cardinal does not wish to undermine the Holy Father's call for parrhesia. ¡Vaya lío!, as the Pontiff cried on another occasion. These people can't have their cake and eat it, I'm afraid. Thank God for these 500 faithful and courageous priests!

From Pope Leo XIII's Encyclical Sapientiae Christianae :
"14...Amid such reckless and widespread folly of opinion, it is, as We have said, the office of the Church to undertake the defense of truth and uproot errors from the mind, and this charge has to be at all times sacredly observed by her, seeing that the honor of God and the salvation of men are confided to her keeping. But, when necessity compels, not those only who are invested with power of rule are bound to safeguard the integrity of faith, but, as St. Thomas maintains: “Each one is under obligation to show forth his faith, either to instruct and encourage others of the faithful, or to repel the attacks of unbelievers.”(12) To recoil before an enemy, or to keep silence when from all sides such clamors are raised against truth, is the part of a man either devoid of character or who entertains doubt as to the truth of what he professes to believe."
