Vicky - I was at the board meeting on Wed when they presented the IB program. It runs for 2 years 11 & 12th grades. It is an elective program that only requires previous language study and Algebra 2 by the end of their junior year. Students are required to take 2 higher level classes during the IB years which are AP classes (and 3 standard level classes). So IB students are required to do AP classes. Students can choose not to do IB, but can still take AP classes, or just take standard level classes. CVHS has a very high rate of graduation in their IB program for those that elect to enroll in it. Last year it was 95%. I hope that helps! I love CVHS because it has a lot of options for our kids and the freeway access is ideal coming from Capo Beach.

After doing some additional research on the two schools, I, too, agree that these are excellent school choices. Thanks for FoMIP and everyone involved for finding these excellent feeder school options for our kiddos!
One question, it looks like CVHS has a AP program besides the IB program. Will the MIP kids automatically enter into the IB Program? Or, will they have the choice to choose to enter the IB Program, the AP Program or just the regular program? My husband had a great experience with an IB program at his high school but I also know that some colleges don't recognize the credits from IB program (vs. AP). Also, while most MIP kids I encounter through volunteering the classroom seem to be exceptionally bright, I can foresee that some might struggle or feel overwhelmed in a more advanced academic program, like AP or IB.

I had a chance to visit this school and learn about this program last year. The student presentations were amazing, and I had a very positive impression of the school and staff.
