The New Mexico Brain Drain Bill (SB 11) will offer New Mexico businesses a $5,000 tax credit when they hire a recently graduated New Mexico Graduate student. The Graduate student must have completed a masters or doctoral degree in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or health-related fields. This tax credit is capped at $2,000,000 a year and could benefit up to 400 New Mexico Graduate students and the companies that hire them. The goal of the bill is to keep New Mexico's best and brightest students in the state to live, work, and contribute to the state's economy. The bill will also help to bring high-tech businesses to New Mexico and improve graduation rates in the state.
