I concur. Billy Frank was a decent fellow the few times I met him.

May 19, 2019 Dear Staff of Port of Olympia, As a member of this blessed community, I can not think of another human being that has sacrificed for his land, his community and his people more than any other person, living or passed than Billy Frank Jr. I would consider it as an insult to this vortex of spirituality we call ‘OLY’ that anyone would even consider another possible contender considering his determined and unremitting advocacy not only for native treaty rights but also for his environmental stewardship and unquestionable love of humanity. As his work intensified so did his fame as to why he has become a household name, even in the streets of Boston where I grew up. Other than being a revered and beloved figure he has become a family member to those who continue his battle for Mother Earth. As someone who has dearly fell deeply in love with the Northwest, I must confess my humanity being that being human and having made my share of mistakes in life, after coming to certain truths concerning life from a critical examination I have realized that when people of conscience do nothing when they are called, the earth dies just a little bit more every time. We are each but mere fibers in this web of life where we are all inextricably connected in one way or another, and whether one chooses to believe it or not, what happens to one community affects all communities. When one segment of society is marginalized for so long that it is society that eventually pays the exacting price. Let us walk into tomorrow with hearts open to all of life’s possibilities. Next time you find yourself down near the sound listen quietly to nature and you will hear him as he speaks through not only time, as well as simple observations such as the ripple of the tides, the chirping of birds, the running rivers hitting their earthly shoulders. And if you are correctly balanced you will hear him in the howling winds as they breeze the valleys. He is there, and always

This is a well-deserved recognition not only of Mr. Frank, but also of the indigenous peoples whose rights he so ably championed.
