Support "My Princess Boy" (or a similar book) at Nova

We have the right to be who we want whether that's our gender or our opinion

As a lesbian wife and mother to a newborn with Down Syndrome, I can't imagine my son growing up in a world that is not inclusive. Inclusiveness is a universal desire and for someone to elect not to be inclusive is a pretty narrow-minded decision. For those who chose that choice, I wish for them to reflect on a time in their lives where they were on the outside of something looking in (we've all been there at some time) and internalize how they felt and reconsider their decision to not be inclusive. Together we make the world a truly wonderful place; to someone who feels outside of that, the world is a harsh place.

There are all kinds of people in this world. We are all better human beings when we remember that.

Let's promote acceptance, because it's 2015, and that year sounds like the future, so we better make it an ideal one.

All children must be protected under the law. They must be loved and cared for however they come to us.

I can think of nothing more fundamental for a public school immersed in the practice of classical virtues than for it to insure that all of its members of are fully welcome and protected within the learning community. If nothing else, it's probably good for us to recall that much of our traditional teaching on the virtues come from individuals and societies that differ radically from our own in terms of their construction of identity and lifestyle practices.

There is absolutely no harm that can come from this message of acceptance and kindness. Please support!

Given that our community is dealing with a real, not hypothetical, case of bullying based on non-conforming gender characteristics, and given that such intolerance has historically been tolerated by society, our students need to explicitly hear that students may not tease others for displaying non-conforming gender traits. A picture book, whether it is My Princess Boy or another title, is an ideal means for communicating that message to a young audience.

Any book that provides a better awareness for scholars to practice virtue should be utilized!

Make all children welcome! Nova's teachers are well versed in offering conscientious, efficient and factual information on many subjects. Trust them to handle this situation in the same manner.

I 100% support the reading of My Princess Boy. Teachers need tools to teach and books are wonderful tools. It is our job to make sure all students are safe at school.

Every child should be safe to express their individuality and diversity should be viewed as a strength. How many years can some people exist before they're allowed to be free! Don't allow bigotry to infect this wonderful school.

I fully support my daughter reading this book and learning from it.

I strongly support using My Princess Boy (or a similar book) in support of anti-bullying at Nova.

Books provide a framework for engaging discussion and building understanding.

It is disappointing that nova needs a petition to support diversity in the first place. All schools have an obligation to teach acceptance and understanding without question.

It is Novas duty as a school with an increasing amount of diversity to encourage support of all people.

If Nova would like to be a school where people feel comfortable and accepted, that means actually making an effort to make it that way. And that requires accepting people regardless of their gender.

My school should be safe for all students. Educating students on difference and diversity is necessary for a rich academic experience.
