This is a fundamental issue. If these organisations are starved of funding, their communities lose valuable employment resources and are then always going to fact a very steep uphill battle.

Rural communities have been downgraded enough by closures of post offices, garda stations, demise of small towns, when is this going to stop? Enough is enough. Places like Ballyhoura should be encouraged for the wonderful work they have done down all the years.
When is someone in Government going to listen to the people who have good ideas and see the potential areas like Ballyhoura have and lots of other places who have pride in their community.

I would like to add my support to this campaign to retain the LEADER companies as they exist. I am secretary of a voluntary committee set up to develop a Community Centre in Cong Co. Mayo. Our committee is almost 6 years in existence and value greatly the considerable input we have had from South West Mayo Development Company. I understand that many EU and American companies look in admiration at the way in which ordinary people give their time & expertise for the 'common good'. This considerable natural resource would be lost without the support of companies like SW Mayo Development companies support n expertise.
Why threaten something which keeps people employed and helps train others to gain employment. Stop targeting the small enterprises and look at yourselves!
