We the members of Blarney Active Retirement Group acknowledge the work carried out by Avondhu Blackwater and many of our members benefit by it. We support their concerns of the changes in administration of the LEADER and LCDP programme.

Our local development company, SECAD, is a VERY important part of the community. Without them, it would be impossible for many small businesses to find the information they need to be successful. SECAD runs many programs that help people learn what they need to know to make a business successful, to help make contacts that can make or break a business. They are also the people to go to to learn about grants, small business loans etc. One of the MOST important functions is that you can speak face to face with a person who ALSO lives and works in the local community, who KNOWS what is needed in the area. This will become impossible without the local development agencies. From past experience, once the local offices are gone, it will become impossible to find information needed in a timely manner, and it will take 10 times the time and effort to find it. Much information will be gotten too late. Losing these local offices will be a severe false economy, as the savings from closing the offices will be quickly eaten up by the loss of taxes brought in by the many businesses that will fail as a direct result of a loss of these services.

Local Development Companies not only promote but support people in the areas of social inclusion and local and rural development. Now they need the support of the local communities local and rural. Why does our government focus on trying to fix that which is not broken , and ignore that which is broken and needs fixing?

We need these services as there are no jobs in the country and for people on social wefare it is the only way they can afford to upskill and get help with interview training. For lone parents it is a way to start there childs education without paying nearly half what they are paid. There is a lot of people who depend on these services for all kinds of reasons but i think the country is depressed enough without adding to the loss and despare.
