If LDCs encourage creativity in the arts and other life-enhancing activities in Ireland's regions, then I think they should certainly be sustained.

IRD is almost the only local agency increasing employment and providing local social support in doing so. Why change what works to a centralised beaurocracy that will eat up all the funds?

Speaking from first hand experience of the local development approach it would be a catastrophic loss to rural life in this country if that level of engagement and local decision making is lost to centralised authorities with no link or interest in the local communities. In this case, centralising the highly specialised work of the Local Development Companies would be a retrograde step. Lets not forget, the EU themselves hold the Irish model up as an example of Best Practice! So why then are this Government seeking to break this up?

We need local people on the ground knowledge who can advise and use their experience to assist those seeking grant approval

Local development companies are the driving force in our communities, they are an essential part of rural Ireland, without them we are going backwards.
Keep Donegal traditional music and folklore for Donegal and it will benefit all of Ireland. It needs it's Local Development company. It has been neglected for too long by the government....scrapping local development would be the last straw.

IRD has done so much for local communnity. It would be an absolute shame to see it go. I myself personally have benifitted from a lot of courses throughout the years. The mentoring service is excellent. The sysytem they have in place for the chrildren for special learning is awesome. I know some of theses kids and can see the advantage of the help and tuition they recieved after school in a friendly safe enviroment. Everybody benifits from the services they provide.
