It’s not broke, so don't fix it. So say communities in Co Monaghan who came out in force this week to express their support for Monaghan Integrated Development (MID) and for its continuation as the Local development Company for Co Monaghan. A large crowd of over 200 community representatives supported the Board and staff of MID in their delivery of important local development programmes on behalf of their communities. If Putting People First is really about empowering citizens and communities, then the views and opinions of these communities should be given due consideration.

"Law; an ordinance of reason for the common good, made by him who has care of the community" (Thomas Aquinas). Just make sure the common good is being served, and not the whims of powerful elites of government rather than the real needs of communities.

Inniskeen Pitch & Putt are fully commited to supporting MID as if it were not for the two TUS workers we would have to close our doors . When dealing with TUS i meet up with Sean Guinean who is living locally and understands our needs . You cant beat local knowledge and that is why MID is so sucessful. So Minister Hogan please leave well enough alone.

Having been at the centre of local development through the Partnership structures for 20 years, with the benefit of both national and local perspectives, I consider the current proposed local government 'reforms' as absolute lunacy which would spell the demise of community led local development as we know it in this country.

These companies are a huge asset to the people and areas they serve and very often serve as the spur to many to get back to work or set up business. They give confidence back to people and are a lifeline to them. While costing money tyo run this is far out weighed by what is spared through present and future health and social welfare benefits and mental health issues.

I want to decrale my support for the current Local Development Companies and their delivery role for LEADER and LCDP. The integrated nature of the range of local development activities is not been given sufficient consideration. Social exclusion is multi dimensional and as we know requires a coordinated approach. LDCs were set up by the state to bring a multi-sectoral approach to tackling some of the most difficult and intractable social problems. The totality of their activities must be considered. I you break up these programmes and the important linkages between them, you will destroy what it has taken years to achieve.

The current system is working really well, why change it. The local partnerships working under LEADER AND lOCAL cOMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME know the people in their area and have work incredibly hard to make their communities a good place to live. Please do not change it. We on the ground beg you.
