Without SECAD this organisation, First Cut! Youth Film Project, would never have come about, and the 1,000s of young people from age 12 to 21 who have benefitted & continue to benefit from their involvement in this innovative film training programme with year round events and opportunities, would not have done so. Our support is unaminous

Why would the government want to dismantle something that has been proven to work well, offer good value and has the ability to address local needs among the most disadvantaged sectors of the community? This programme and its predecessors is not just about funding local community and private projects, LAG’s in Ireland have been innovative, creative and forward looking in enabling people see opportunities and access supports such as mentoring, advice and training to enable them to rise above the challenges they face every day. They are accessible, connected and understand their target areas and communities. At EU level Ireland has been lauded for its community based approach to local development, why dismantle it now? Change for the sake of change is not progress!

Our community inititive would be unable to exist with the support and mentoring from our local Partnership Developement Company. If this is not kept local community , voluntary and business will suffer. Local people know local people, decision making on local development cannot be effectively carried out other than at local ground level. Keep the local development companies.

Privatisation of community developments bad for communities

Commercialising Community development for disadvantaged communities represents poor thinking. It misses the point that skilled people do this 'care' work for non-commercial reasons & motives. The same skilled people would work in the profit-based commercial sector, such as banking, otherwise.
Local development companies provide in situ, hands on focus on development that is vital to local communities.

I found SECAD to be very helpful and informative in advising me in advance of starting up my own business. They facilitate excellent networking opportunities and relevant courses

If local authorities take over the funding will be swallowed up by totally unrelated spending requirements.
