Local Development Companies are providing the necessary interface between specific services and people who are most in need of them at a time when services and unemployment are at such low levels. That this is achieved through innovative partnerships strengthens their success. The community development sector has been picked and pulled at in previous years and the Local Development Companies are ensuring contact is not lost with those ideals and the potential of meaningful social incusion work. They have a very real and vital role to play and any prospect of dismantling such a valuable and progressive support needs to be challenged.

Consider the history of the Local Development Companies in Ireland and their role in improving conditions for people in (particularly) rural areas. Please leave them as they are to continue their great work. If it ain't broke ... etc.

As a local business coach, i can see first hand the value that Ballyhoura bring to small businesses in the area. On a personal level, i am involved with Bruff Community Council and the support we have received has been greatly needed for our town which has lost a lot of services in the past 5 years.

I wish to support the continuation of the role/work of the existing 50 LDC’s in Ireland to work with communities to develop local solutions to local issues whilst focusing on the promotion of local economic development, continued job creation, protection of employment and to address ongoing inequality and social exclusion.

I would like to state that I think the idea of privatisation of community development programmes is very ill judged and would be a grave mistake, which will not benefit local communities compared to the way in which the programmes currently operate.
