How are communities supposed to re-build the mess that the recession has left without the support of Local Development Companies??

As Existing Companies have established expertise and knowledge of local areas and community development groups I feel that they should be maintained. I cant see the point in trying to invent the wheel.

i support the existing rural development structuture any change could destroy the supports that currently exist for rural communities. Coillte benefit in no small way through RSS and TUS work carried out in the maintenance and development of Recreation sites and other amenity facilities which are available for public use.

Local development companies and community development projects have been doing vital work for decades. They know their communities better than any one and should receive increased support and funding and retain their autonomy. We are destroying the fabric of our society otherwise

We should stop the plans to destroy the expertise that has been built up over the years. We should not allow 2000 people being put on the life register and hand over the work to County Councils who are already overwhelmed. The cutbacks of this government hid those people the hardest who are already marginalized.

I have seen at first hand the benefit of Local Development Companies in terms of the training and individual support they give unemployed and marginalised members of their community. Their work ensures that local people get first class support and opportunities for work, a future and investment in the local economy.

Local development companies have a proven track record and is recognized both nationally and internationally as a model of best practice. Why break it? We must keep Rural Ireland alive, and ensure that the great work/linkage with local communities are maintained.Taking these programmes out of the reach of Rural Communities will be a disaster in time.

I believe local development companies empower local communities, have a good track record in delivering benefits, jobs and business opportunities and that this enriches local democracy.

Local Development Companies like Avondhu Blackwater Partnership in Cork have been providing an excellent service to communities and individuals for over 20 years. In addition, they provide excellent value-for-money for Exchequer and EU funds. If any chages are to be made, it should involve the Local Development Companies having an even greater role in local, rural and community development. This will ensure an even greater level of participative democracy and active citizenship in Ireland.
