The Riptide began presenting live entertainment in the Outer Sunset in 2003, continuing the legacy of entertainment in that space which can be traced back to at least the 1960s. The origin of the Riptide closely preceded that of the San Francisco Entertainment Commission, and at the time of opening, were led to believe that no new permits specific to entertainment were necessary. Now that they are aware of the necessity of an entertainment permit, and have a 11+ year history of responsible ownership and engaged neighborhood relations, the Riptide owners are committed to complying with current law.
