Free speech and free journalism are important facets of a functioning democracy. We need brave and fearless journalists to hold people to account now more than ever. The Government ought to recognise and support that.

The government should be ashamed. But as they are shameless, we must keep up the fight against deportations.

To put in danger this brave man, who has already been persecuted and beaten for his work exposing corruption, would be a national disgrace.

Courage and truth-seeking in such circumstances should be welcomed with compassion, not given the boot

Mr Bhatt's investigative-journalism skills could be put to good use in the UK. He should be allowed to stay and work, not sent home and exposed to the danger of further torture, prosecution, even death.

If anyone ever deserved to have the protection of UK asylum laws, Amitt Bhatt is it.

Please allow this journalist protection. The British people need to know what is happening in India, We need to beware of the signs. The undermining of all democracies is the bigger global picture. Clamp downs on the press and freedom of information, or turning a blind eye and failing to record and report, are the earliest signs. It has happened in Turkey, it's happening across the world, in India and now control of the media is started in the U.S., and in Britain by entirely commercial ownership of the daily rags and TV channels. Protect investigative journalists. Britain and the world need their skills and dedication for the public good

THE BRITISH MEDIA HAS RESPONSIBILITIES TO HELP, PROTECT AND SUPPORT JOURNALISTS WORLDWIDE. VISUALLY NO COVERAGE TO DO WITH HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSE IS COVERED IN UK NEWSPAPERS THEREFORE THE MAJORITY OF READERS ARE IGNORANT OF WHAT NEO-LIBERALISM IS DOING TO MAKE INDIA AN ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO COUNTRY RE. FREEDOM OF PRESS AND EVEN THE MOST BASIC PRINCIPLES OF HUMAN RIGHTS.

This is an urgent and very straightforward case. We should protect victims of torture and uphold the principle of freedom of the press.
