Jody is an outstanding and devoted Hospice RN. It is heartbreaking to hear that Yolo Hospice administration is joining the ranks of callous mismanagement and disrespect for the employees. Trust within an organization is imperative for any agency to succeed. When beloved and highly skilled personnel are abruptly terminated the trust evaporates and the program's goals become less & less attainable. Trust can NOT be marketed.... it must be earned. Tending to employee morale is essential!! There is, certainly, a backstory, but terminating a key and much loved nurse for ANY reason after 19 years of service without discussion of options for resolution is certainly devastating to Jody but also for the remaining staff. I watched this at Napa Hospice. A pretty good non-profit community hospice agency with an administration completely lacking foresight heartlessly terminated long term, highly skilled and devoted nurses. It was like dominos.... they fired a few and the remaining nurses were so disillusioned that 13 RNs have now quit. What Admin seems unable to take into account is that replacing a single RN costs the agency $40,000 to 60,000 each. I am so very sad that Yolo is now joining the ranks of the rest of the healthcare system we used to be proud to work for. It's broken and that leaves another community with less then optimal hospice resources.

Jody is an incredibly skilled Registered Nurse and has devoted two decades to Yolo Hospice and to the building of a strong team of professionals to meet the needs of the community. I have seen a heartbreaking trend in the administration of healthcare organizations that seemingly have NO concept of the level of heart and commitment that is required by hospice teams. Abrupt terminations, poorly handled, are devastating to both the person being fired and the morale of the organization. It's clear, reading through these comments, seeing all those that post as "Anonymous", that there is increasing fear and distrust growing among those Jody supported and mentored. Fear and distrust almost inevitably result in diminished functionality and cohesiveness in those who provide the services that Yolo Hospice has been proud to deliver at a very high standard. That high standard of care, the wellbeing of the team, and the reputation of Yolo Hospice are in grave danger as a result. There is, I fear, the potential (as I observed working for Napa Hospice) that many of the highly specialized and loving team members have become demoralized by the poorly handled termination of Jody and will leave. The cost to the organization in terms of lost morale, diminished staff confidence in the administration, loss of reputation in the community, and the domino effect of staff turnover (each RN that resigns, or is fired, will cost YH $40,000 to $60,000 to replace) may be potentially devastating to this once extraordinary agency. I send my heartfelt wishes to Jody, Piper, and the remaining team that such dire consequences can be mitigated. In the meantime, I trust that someone is already in contact with a highly skilled employment rights attorney and that all is being done to support those in fear for their jobs and providing wise counsel for Jody & Piper.
