Factories get a 5.6% VAT rebate on cattle purchased from unregistered farmers directly and through marts. Live exporters should be allowed to claim this also. It would cost the exchequer nothing extra but would add 56euro to the buying power of a live explorer's buying a 1000euro animal.

There is already anti competitive practices being allowed in the beef sector we need to do all we can to prevent the factories gaining a complete monopoly on beef sector prices in this country .
