Infants and young children need to be considered when Australians are preparing for emergencies. It is not good enough that the Australian federal government has not developed appropriate plans and resources.

Women need support to feed their babies during emergencies . They need government support under these stressful situations to support breastfeeding , have access to more milk banks and donated breastmilk if their own breastmilk is dwindling .

We know we aren't prepared to provide adequate support for infants and young children in emergencies in Australia. We need the Federal Government to provide leadership and take action.

I really hope that all Australian Governments do what they can to implement the Australian National Breastfeeding Strategy, and in particular finally recognise that families with babies and small children have particular needs in emergency situations and deserve to appropriately planned for.

Given the very real and imminent threats of climate change, it is vital that The Government of Australia implement these four steps to protect Australian infants in disaster and emergency situations.
