This petition is timely and well worded. As the minimun action required for the safety and well-being of the very young, such initiatives must be ongoing and sustained. That means sustained funding, adjusted for rises in cost of living and to allow for refresher training as well as initial training.

As a RC emergency services team member I was horrified that no official information came from the government on caring for babies and young children. It all started from primary school age, upwards but there was heaps of information on caring for your pets!

Having worked in disaster management for local government during events and as an ABA community educator I have witnessed how these events unfold to the detriment of our infants and children.

Breastfeeding is the single most powerful public health strategy and has profound intergenerational health and wellbeing impacts. It should be promoted and supported as optimal feeding method for infants and incorporated into strategic planning at all levels of government, including and especially emergency response planning locally, nationally and and internationally.

As a Midwife , Mother and Grandmother I have been concerned about infant and children's well-being all of my adult life. The fires and flooding we experienced late last year and early this year vividly showed how vulnerable they were .

Sad indictment of our society that we have to petition the government to protect our children.

A really important issue, and provides a good understanding for caring for infants and mothers during emergencies and what is required for care and feeding. A lot of hard work has gone into this research, and policy.
