It is deeply moving to see our collective concerns transformed into a policy that will ease the burden for so many future students. We should feel proud of this achievement while we remain observant to ensure the …

Greetings,

We, the U.S. II Honors students from Littleton High School, MA. We are asking for your support of the H.1339 and S.829 bills which will guarantee debt-free public higher education for the citizens of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. As rising seniors who will soon be attending college, we feel it is important to address the increasing costs within higher education and the problems that arise from having to pay off student debt.

In general, many students are forced to compromise the quality of their education based on cost alone. After surveying students within our district, 97% believe that college tuition is overpriced and 68% are stressed about paying for the cost of college. Most students are forced to take out loans that will forever impact their quality of life after college.

Having a debt-free higher education will provide less stress for students coming out of college, allowing them to acquire a stable job and not be burdened by paying off the costs of their college education. Overall, financial hardships due to rising costs of college tuition are negatively impacting the education and well being of our community. Therefore, something must be done to help solve this crisis.

Below are links to the proposed bills. Thank you for your time, and for signing our petition.

My son is a junior and we are already panicking about how to afford this. College costs are out of control.

I’m almost 50 and I am still paying for my advanced degrees. It’s not easy trying to better yourself, work as an educator, and have a family while trying to pay back thousands of dollars for undergraduate and graduate education.
