Support for the Continuation of the Current Hybrid/Remote Model

First and foremost, we need to get the teachers vaccinated. They are essential workers. If they aren't vaccinated soon then we need to follow the protocols to a T that are outlined by Dr. Rochelle Walensky, CDC Director under the Biden administration.

Life sucks. It is what it is. I support the science.

As a healthcare provider, I am opposed to an increase in in-person learning until students and staff can be vaccinated against COVID-19.

I have kids at Tucker and Pierce, and I appreciate the job that MPS is doing during this difficult time.

We are so happy with how MPS has supported our children and prioritized the health of our communityh

I stand with the school committee and entire MPS staff in the very difficult work they are doing to balance the many competing needs and issues across the community in providing our children with an education. I would suggest that the most important “lessons” for students this year is that of flexibility, resilience, community cooperation and yes, sacrifice for the greater good. These skills will be far more valuable throughout their life than the lessons they may be missing from the textbooks and in class time. Finally, I encourage the school committee to proactively elicit the help that many many members of the community are willing to give to advance its goals of providing the best possible education for our students.

Teachers shouldn’t just give kids continuous hours of a sync work. It should be thoughtful work assigned. Teachers need to be on zoom during zoom w/kids and not just recording their teaching for students to view anytime. Both kids and teachers need to ask questions live during zoom.

It’s understandable that we all have strong feelings in these crazy times. I’ve been an educator for over 20 years and I have witnessed the profession morph into a data driven, science based, and HIGHLY accountable institution that is run by highly educated professionals. It is NOT the same institution we were educated in. The decisions made are thoughtful and often times, given a lack of funding and respect, not the 1st, 2nd or even 100th choice educators deem to be the best choice. Dr. Abir from the University of Michigan, says we need “space, staff and stuff. If you don’t have one, it doesn’t matter if you have the other two.” Milton has long needed more space and staff....this place we find ourselves in should come as no surprise. The administration, teachers, and ALL the other staff members who make a school run, should be commended for what they have done in the light of the data, science, and tight constraints before them. Thank you.

I want to thank the Superintendent,teachers, nurses, and all school staff for their efforts. I would also like to advocate for greater focus on teacher training in remote pedagogical models.

As an educator for another district I do not support a change to the current model. Safety should be the number one priority

The hybrid system has proven itself to be viable. A return to full-day would require a tremendous back-up system in place to account for possible infections in the school population. Speaking as a retired MPS teacher who loved subbing after retirement, I can tell you that it would be impossible to put that backup system in place; very few qualified subs will step forward to enter the schools (it’s too dangerous), and the remote element will be lost. It’s working. Don’t try to fix what’s not broken.

Many families like our have a working routine now. With cases surging in MA a d winter just around the corner, now is not the time for more in person learning. For the sake of the staff and their families, as well as ours. Changing things up, mostly to the detriment of the remote learners who are trying to do our part to stay home would be a disaster at this time.

Thank you for doing this. It has been very upsetting (for the entire staff) that the other petition even started. We are all killing ourselves this year, and that isn’t even good enough. Again, thank you.
