Support for MATA amending the Practice Act in relation to licensure of athletic trainers

Athletic trainers are dynamic, well trained and cost efficient health care providers. By limiting restrictions on their practice act, it allows for better health care across multiple populations.

I previously worked in Maryland and know how important it is for this legislation to change! ATs could be utilized in so many ways and as of now, we are very limited.

I no longer work as full time trainer because of restrictions in health care physical therapy clinics. Low pay and inability to treat patients in clinical setting. I am now working as a full time Professional Counselor. I changed careers due to Maryland State Laws.

Please support this amendment to the Practice Act, we frequently lose quality athletic trainers to other states with less restrictions. Maryland professionals and residents deserve the highest quality of care!!

Please allow athletic trainers to use their versatile emergency management skills, injury and illness prevention skills and wellness services to benefit corporations, physician offices, hospitals, rehabilitation clinics, emergency rooms, every branch of the United States military and performing arts companies.

As someone who works for one of the largest employers of athletic trainers in the country I think it is imperative that all states get behind supporting and not restricting the role of an athletic trainer to provide medical care to all active people within their community. If Maryland continues to limit the role of an athletic trainer I can attest that many students of athletic training in that community will not continue to pursue this profession. This will lead to a further drought of athletic trainers needed to provide care throughout the country and not just in Maryland. As a physical therapist who has been practicing for nearly 20 years I can attest that athletic trainers are not taking away business from the physical therapist and that we all will benefit by having a more diverse staff of medical providers caring for our communities.

I am licensed in MD and WV. This bill would expand resources, education to active residents in the many and often underprivileged communities that I serve. Healthy lifestyle behaviors and access to wellness, injury prevention programs and rehabilitative programs are imperative to the health of all as we fight this obesity epidemic. We need to set our youth up for an active, healthy life. #MDProud

I was born and raised in Maryland and have worked as an Athletic Trainer for 40 years in the state. I was a part of the licensure process, this Amendment is critical in Athletic Trainers fulfilling a vital part of the Health Care system in Maryland. I would ask you support this Amendment, as an Athletic Trainer for 40 years I see this a vital step in the progression of the profession in the State of Maryland.

Being an Certified athletic trainer for the past 30 years, I feel it’s imperative for Maryland to get the licensure’s correct. Also, being the cofounder of Pivot Physical therapy, one of largest employer of athletic trainers in the state, I believe this will improve healthcare and reduce cost.

I am a MD resident but practice as an athletic trainer in the state of WV.

I work in MD as a practicing AT and not having these restrictions will greatly help my profession and practice.
