Athletic Trainers are allied health professionals whose expertise extends far beyond just athletes and all athletes are not on the court or field. Some are firefighters, factory workers, race car drivers. Limiting to athletes is a great disservice to everyone when athletic trainers cannot work on all individuals needing services.

I was born and raised in Maryland, completed all of my education in Maryland, and spoke with my representatives for the original licensure. Now I’m asking for more jobs in the state for my profession in which we are qualified. We are qualified for so many more settings and populations than currently allowed.

Not all athletes wear cleats! Please pass this legislation to allow MD athletic trainers to serve as allied healthcare professionals to individuals of all activity levels in all settings.

I support this bill! As Athletic Trainers there are so many venues we could help in. So much knowledge is waisted with just athletes when it could be used for so much good in others areas.

Also licensed in MD as ATC -MD needs to step up and update wording in licensure in line with other states that utilize ATCs in more than simply the traditional athletic setting.

Their knowledge of the body and treatment doesn't change based on a person's activity level.

Restricting the definition of who athletic trainers can work with is a disservice to so many people that could benefit from the help of ATCs!

Wholeheartedly support this petition. As an industrial athletic trainer and a chiropractor I see the benefits of having an athletic trainer in the industrial setting as well as various other settings. Our profession demonstrates being versatile with the interventions we can provide and providing comfort amongst our patients. I will hire an athletic trainer for my business way before any another profession. This is not to turn down professions, but athletic trainer have so much knowledge and can apply it effectively. That’s the key, application of knowledge. So requiring more schooling and experience, to me, is only beneficial if it’s adds experience. I see this as more of a way to increase difficulty and discredit a profession without fully understanding the benefits.
