Brigadier General Michael Bills denied the request by US Army deserter Kimberly Rivera for clemency. She was requesting to end her 10 month sentence 45 days early due to the fact that she gave birth to a child on Nov 25th. A child that she got pregnant with just before she was to start serving her sentence. In 2006 she joined the Army for the $8000 sign on bonus and deployed from Ft.Carson following training, in Feb 2007 while she was on R&R from Iraq her husband threatened to leave her and take the kids if she didn't go with him to Canada. It was after she deserted her unit and the Army that she tried claiming it was due to her not agreeing with the war. In Sept 2012, she was kicked out of Canada, where she was refused refugee status, and told by the Canadian government that all she was doing was trying to get out of her obligation and deserting the US Army. Upon returning to the US she was arrested and turned over to the military. During her Court Martial she pleaded guilty to two charges of desertion and was sentenced to 10 months. She knew we were at war in Iraq when she enlisted, she knew the consequences when she deserted her fellow troops and she needs to be held accountable for her actions. Her actions were hers and hers alone and there is no one to blame but her for the "unfair punishment" she is receiving.

We need to let BG Bills know that we think he made the right decision to deny her request and make her finish serving her minimal sentence. She has less than 45 days left, the baby is being cared for by her husband, so the baby is in no danger.
