Fair treatment for all BL agents

If all BL agents bid with everyone else, managers and leads could have a list of BL agents on shift with their locations. This list could also be made available in each work area for when the need arises. There could also be a list made available to all staff. That would cover the company’s French language obligation very efficiently. This would also encourage all the closet French speakers to jump on the bandwagon and help out when needed. This scenario would also create a positive, mutually beneficial work environment. Our shift lines would also not be hit or miss, as they are now. Presently, there are just not enough of us for someone to always be available in the right spot at the right time. I just completed my rotation without having to speak French once! The fact that management and the union have not considered this route is extraordinarily surprising. Is being forced to speak French really necessary? We speak French because we love the language and because we want to.

Fixed hours without different schedules on the same line will provide a better quality of life for the employee.

French announcements must be done at every single flight since it's the second Canadian language, it is mandated by Transport Canada. Agents are proud of knowing this language, we should not be penalized for having the must have requisite to work in the airline industry.

How has there not been more pressure on HR to recruit more bilingual agents? If you look at the years there have been less and less recruited in recent years.

How ironic that as the flag carrier and Canada’s largest airline, Air Canada treats its bilingual employees so unfairly. As those who speak both of Canada’s official languages, all we ask is to be valued or AT LEAST be treated with the same regard as our non bilingual colleagues. Enough is enough.

1-We should bid according to our seniority within the pool of all agents and then the operation will go forward by assigning language agent wherever it is needed 2-We should be able to trade our shiftswithout a language restriction.

“Being bilingual is a valuable skill that enhances communication and understanding. It’s important that organizations like Air Canada recognize and appreciate the contributions of bilingual French speakers. We deserve to be treated with respect and appreciation for our linguistic abilities.”

AC needs to end treating its French speaking agents unfairly. We are tired of being at a disadvantage for the privilege of serving our customers in both official languages. As shift workers we all have lives, families, other jobs, etc. But being a BL agents, seniority drops and is such a hindrance that many good BL agents are leaving.

Air Canada is federally mandated to maintain a certain number of French speaking agents and is NOT living up to that mandate. Air Canada cannot seem retain French speaking agents be it due to poor wages or the deplorable hours or a combination of both. This should not be an issue for those French speaking agents who are still here. We are suffering because of this and it is simply unjust.

Only at Air Canada is it a disadvantage to have both official languages of Canada.
