How strange a world we live in. A petition has to be signed to achieve a proper situation!

open access to information is such an important principle, especially for those of us who work in non-profits that can't afford pricey subscriptions or reports.

It is about time that this happens. In no other branch employees are expected to work without pay - and that in a company with perhaps the highest profit rates. 30 %, isn't it?

I have probably written 500 referee reports for no pay. I notice that the subscription charges I paid for the journals I helped never came down.

A good initiative. The issues with academic publishers (in linguistics) are well-known, it's not a recent phenomenon, and it must also be said that many linguists (and their academic institutions) have been happy to cooperate with academic publishers for a long time (so it's not just a one-sided story of the big bad academic publishers). Nevertheless, positive changes in perspective are always welcome.

It would be great it the LingOA website can provide links to and/or collaboration with other OA journals in linguistics that meet 2 or more of the criteria. This way, the petition and the initiative to support fair OA in linguistics could have wide-spread and longer term influence on the ecology of publication in our field.
