I took Dr. Kim's Queer Studies class in my last year at UC Irvine. Her class was life-changing as it challenged my perceptions of how I thought the world operated. I admired her passion, her work, and I gained so much from being her student. She was incredibly patient and made sure that every one of her students was understanding the class materials. She was approachable, funny, and humble - which made her relatable and someone I want to be like one day.

I have never had Dr. Kim as one of my professors but I think that we should give every educator the opportunity to teach if that is what they want to do. Educators change the lives of many, why not let Dr. Kim do the same?

Being in Dr. Kim's class is such an amazing experience that literally gives me chills. You can tell she is passionate about what she teaches and being so interested in social justice, I'eve learned so much from her and I will forever take her wise words with me while I work on making the world more just and equal.:)

Dr. Kim is an educator who is not their just to receive a paycheck, but actually is concerned with the social injustice of systemic inequalities face by minorities. To let them professor goes means that the UCI has failed to recognize how outstanding professors like Dr. Kim has put into words what minority feel in the US, and on UCI campus. She is the one of the few professors who has a true passion for what she knows and is willing to pass on this knowledge to students. In all actuality, we do not live in a colorblind society. Minorities, more specifically African Americans have been oppressed for years. Dr. Kim helps Black and others understand the type of oppression happening in America. She is the true value of a real advocate of grass root change that needs to happen in America in order to all races, cultures, sexuality's, etc. to have the same access like White Americans.

I just graduated in 2014. Dr. Kim taught two of the courses I took as part of a Women's Studies minor. I attribute much of my foundational knowledge of systems of gendered and racialized oppression to her amazing skills as an educator.

I'm an alumnus (ICS '88). I haven't taken a class with Dr. Kim, but I know someone who has whose opinion I highly value. Dr. Kim sounds like a great resource for the university. We've seen stories in the news this year, ranging from gay rights to racism, which shows how these (and related) issues are critical to our society. I hope Dr. Kim can continue to contribute to the university's expertise and understanding in these areas.

Parent of former UCI student Indar Smith class of 2010-2011, Biological Sciences(2010), African American Studies (2011), As a parent of a former Student @ UCI, I was highly impressed with the teaching of Dr. Karen Kim. So much so that I am considering continuing my education @ UCI specifically, to major in African American & Women's Studies! I attended some of Dr. Karen Kim's classes, along with my husband. We made the trip all the way from Oakland, CA. I hope the UCI wouldn't change anything about her curriculum, that would truly be a loss for anyone not to be able to experience her classes!
