JMU's choice to backpedal on this important and research-based training in order to appease white supremacists and right-wing extremists is unacceptable. Marginalized students deserve to have faculty and student mentors who are trained in DEI principles and prepared to offer support when they face discrimination. JMU cannot be a welcoming community for marginalized people and also tolerate bigotry.

JMU is consistently slow to respond to student concerns related to sexual assault, racism & toxic work environments, but all it took was 1 Fox News article to pause this valuable training and issue an apology. Once again showing that conservatives’ comfort is more important to admin than marginalized students’ lived experiences.
