Members of the Coffs Bypass Action Group are committed to the need for a bypass as soon as possible. Ever since the preferred option was established as the “inner west route”, the RMS has planned for either cuttings or tunnels to achieve this. The current RMS concept design, released a mere 10 weeks ago, involves land bridges over cuttings rather than tunnels. No convincing reason for this decision has been tabled. Instead we have been fed a series of half truths e.g. trucks with dangerous goods will still travel the existing Pacific Highway because they cannot use tunnels.
The Coffs Bypass Action Group accepts the current route but is asking that the RMS reconsider the use of tunnels rather than cuttings. This should not delay the planned commencement of this project which is not less than 13 months away, nor the date in 2024 when Coffs Harbour streets may finally be relieved. The Coffs Bypass Action Group is not a noisy minority jeopardizing the funding for this project or its schedule. Many hundreds have signed their petition that calls for no more and no less than “tunnels and not cuttings”.
In short, because the vast majority of the individuals that have signed this petition do not live along the path of either the current or proposed route, what the Coffs Bypass Action Group is trying to ensure is the best outcome for all of Coffs Harbour.

We don't need tunnels. They have to be closed annually for maintenance which means we get the traffic through Coffs again. Any dangerous goods being carried still have to come through town, that's not a proper solution.
How many times do we see on American news were a dangerous goods transporter has crashed and exploded in a town.
Only a dummy would push to have the bypass delayed even longer. Have a look at how long it took to do the Helena tunnels near Byron Bay!

Why is it so hard for people to understand? Tunnels WILL NOT DELAY CONSTRUCTION! They have been part of the concept for years. RMS have only just, this year, chosen horrible cuttings over tunnels without due consideration for Coffs residents. Please read and consider the arguments for and against. We should all be working together on this - just get it done WITH TUNNELS. Oh and for goodness sake get rid of the Coramba interchange (that'll also speed things up). Don't be fooled into accepting a sub-standard, horrible bypass that will destroy the beauty of Coffs forever.

We’ve been waiting too long for this - we have the funding now - just get it done! Do we really want to be the only town between Sydney and Brisbane with trucks still ploughing through our city centre, running red lights and posing risks to our lives? No! Do we really want that heavy holiday traffic to continue for another decade? No! Do we want freer local traffic? Yes! Do we want safe local roads? Yes! Do we want a bypass? Yes, yes, yes!

Consider all Coffs residents and future generations. There is only one chance to do this properly. Don't be fooled by RMS scare tactics - we need tunnels not cuts. Coramba interchange will be a huge cost and mistake.
