The Precinct is a conceptual plan to open the heritage buildings and outdoor areas of The Lambton Colliery 'B' Pit Precinct at 1 Geraldton Dr, Redhead for all members of the community to appreciate and enjoy.

The Lambton Colliery Precinct is a large site at the entrance to The Grange estate in Redhead. It is located on Collier St, Redhead and is directly linked to the Fernleigh Track via a shared path from the Cowlishaw St (Liles Oval) entry point. There are three historic buildings of state heritage value on this site. These buildings are currently being restored by Lake Macquarie City Council, and expressions of interest have been sought for their future use.

This Precinct concept plan encompasses a whole food cafe, interpretive historical displays of mining and railway equipment, photographs, art work and educational signage and indoor cafe seating in the Winder House and Store House buildings.

It is envisaged that the outdoors area will have cafe and bench seating, a children's play area, kitchen garden, bicycle storage racks for cyclists and further historical displays in the form of mining and rail equipment or replicas, and educational signage on The Shaft Enclosure and Waddle Fan frame.

The concept proposes that the former Fan Engine House should operate as community space for exhibitions, varying classes for all ages, community meetings and gatherings, health and well-being classes and seminars. The basement area is proposed to provide space for a work area set up, such as a bicycle restoration and repair workshop, that could be run in-conjunction with community groups.

The Precinct concept plan embraces the significance of The Lambton "B" Pit Colliery Precinct and aims to work with, and involve all members of the community to allow this unique example of 19th Century history to reach it's full potential.

This concept plan has been submitted to Lake Macquarie City Council for consideration, and your feedback is invaluable and will demonstrate community opinion for a venture of this kind.

Please show your support by signing this petition and please include any comments or feedback you would like considered.

Many thanks for your time and support.

The scale of this response confirms the community interest needed to move forward with officials. I have officially requested a formal briefing session with the Lake Macquarie City Council project managers to present our vision for the site.

This place has so much history. Love the idea of a cafe there instead of just leaving the buildings empty and rotting away.
