Neonatal abstinence syndrome or NAS for short, can be defined as a group of symptoms or problems that occur in newborns who were exposed to an addictive opiate drug while in the mother's womb. The prevalence of NAS is increasing due to the current public health crisis known as the opioid epidemic.

The reauthorization of CHIP, which stands for Children's Health Insurance Program, is a topic of discussion in current health care debates. The elimination of this program would negatively effect the healthcare treatment NAS infants have access to and receive.

Please stand with us in supporting the reauthorization of CHIP to help the tiniest humans who are being affected by the opioid epidemic.

Updates

November 11, 2017

I am currently compiling our petition data to present directly to the legislative offices overseeing CHIP reauthorization. We are finalizing a formal briefing document that outlines the specific impact of the opioid epidemic on infant care requirements. Expect a report on the initial responses from these offices once they have reviewed our materials.

The current level of engagement has forced this issue into the scope of several key legislative offices. I am now coordinating meetings to present these project goals directly to policy staffers.
