Hate carriage horses working in the heat

I cringe every time I go downtown and see overloaded carriages being pulled by one horse in high humidity and in the upper 90's. It's miserable to walk in this weather. Just imagine having to pull a wagon filled with tourists!

This is inhumane and outrageous. Put a stop to it.

I really feel sorry for the horses in all kind of weather.

These seem like reasonable measures.

I know these horses are bred for work, but in over 100 degree heat, is it really humane for them to be dragging a heavy wagon-load of fat tourists?

Love the carriage tours but would be happier about it if the heat limit was set at 90 degrees.

Please add some rules requiring more humane treatment of the horses and mules pulling the carriages. I have personally seen the carriages carrying large numbers of people in awful temperatures. This practice is abusive. Why do we need to use the animals for this anyway. Motorized tour vehicles may more sense.

Ultimately, history judges all civilizations on how well its people cared for.. defended and protected all its inhabitance that could not do this for themselves.

These new regulations are just common sense and a small step in the right direction.

I absolutely agree with these changes and will never take a carriage ride -- or recommend that anyone else do so -- until the carriage companies comply with the basic and humane conditions. Thank you!

I wish more places would do this. Blessings

The regulation for temperature should be even lower or just end it all together. But at least this is a huge step in the right direction

It's time that the regulations change and the carriage industry stops regulating the rules through their presence in City Council.

These horses suffer. I want to cry every time I got downtown and watch one horse pulling 17 people and a carriage and its 105 degrees with the heat index. Shame on all of you who support this practice.

Perhaps we should let a few city council members drag tourists around in the summer heat! Maybe then they would be a tad more empathetic with the horses and mules!
