Please help us stand behind our city, as a proud resident that promotes humane treatment of animals. In so many ways Charleston demonstrates to many cities across the country how to bring harmony and peace to challenging situations. Let this be another one of those ways, by showing compassion and caring for these animals.
We are asking for support of the reasonable accommodations citied in this Post & Courier article. The changes include a 90 degree heat limit and weight limits, which are not invasive to any of us as residents. Furthermore, supporting this article diminishes no one's business, and goes a long way in improving conditions for the animals.

I was walking downtown earlier and saw one of the horses just standing there in that thick humidity and it really hit me how much they need us to speak up for those temperature limits. It feels like the city is just waiting for the season to turn so they can forget about the heat concerns but we aren't going anywhere. Honestly it is exhausting but seeing the notes you all leave about your own experiences with the animals keeps me clicking refresh on my laptop all day.

This has to be fixed. I see these horses everday... Also hoofs have to stay healthy they are sooo bad. Alsphalt not good.
Love the carriage tours but would be happier about it if the heat limit was set at 90 degrees.
Please add some rules requiring more humane treatment of the horses and mules pulling the carriages. I have personally seen the carriages carrying large numbers of people in awful temperatures. This practice is abusive. Why do we need to use the animals for this anyway. Motorized tour vehicles may more sense.
These new regulations are just common sense and a small step in the right direction.
It's time that the regulations change and the carriage industry stops regulating the rules through their presence in City Council.

I cringe every time I go downtown and see overloaded carriages being pulled by one horse in high humidity and in the upper 90's. It's miserable to walk in this weather. Just imagine having to pull a wagon filled with tourists!
