I would like to go kayaking on the river but I'm afraid of falling in and becoming infected with something nasty.

Barcombe Mills is awesome (when the water quality is good). Agree that English rivers in general should be more openly accessible to swimmers and paddlers. Wales and Scotland appear to have no issues with rivers as a recreational resource and nor did England in days of yore. Suggested reading - Roger Deakin's 'Waterlog'
I like to swim at Barcombe Mills with friends, some of them have stopped after becoming ill after swimming

The Ouse is already a popular swimming river regardless of designation. Let us help to make it safer and less invidious with local landowners.

This is a wonderful area to swim and is used for other watersports so of course, the water should be of swimming quality.

I think the water quality should be up to a safe level anyway if canoeing clubs use it so yes I'm all for making sure defra put the level up to that of bathing quality .

All we are asking is to do what are our forefathers did for centuries before us
It should be open for use for everyone! Not enough places in the UK for people to practise river swimming.
London, tw1 1eu
pen water swimming should be encouraged in a safe environment.
It would be great to swim there 'officially'!
