I am so sorry that hateful and angry people put blinders on and minimize your epic work because of what they perceive to be unacceptable. The majority of people really do not understand all this hate, and your apology (even when you were not the one portraying hatefulness) just speaks to your wonderful character. That day should have been the happiest day of this man's life, but instead of getting to spread his joy, what does he get? Shit, he gets shit for the shirt that he wears. Seriously? I mean, he landed a robot on a comet! These "feminists" just ruined the best day of his life, and made it one of his worst.

As another woman in STEM, specifically bioengineering, I find absolutely nothing offensive or unwelcoming about his shirt. Are other STEM women actually upset over this? This is my first time reading about the probe and after reading about the extreme accuracy of engineering that went into designing and transporting the probe to the comet, I am simply overwhelmed by the Rosetta Team’s success. Then I am slapped in the face by comments about this shirt that I never even noticed because as engineers, we are blind to fashion. We do no waste time wondering if this sock will match with our eyes; we are too busy trying to figure out if we will be able to enter the gravitational pull of the comet at the right speed or in my case, if I had successfully amplified the transfected DNA insert in the plasmid. Of all the negative comments, I notice they come from women in the media or regular women who are addicted to tweeting. I am not sure if this would come off as sexist since I am a woman after all, but do their comments even matter? Obviously, they rejected the STEM field way before even meeting Matt Taylor and entering into STEM during adulthood is extremely difficult if you do not have a strong math and science background. In short, I am just wondering if these comments are simply made by idiots who were never smart enough for STEM and have nothing better to do with their time. If anything, I am deeply offended by the women who are trying to represent me, an actual woman in STEM, in stating that this shirt is the epitome of why there are so little women in STEM. No, the reason is that many women did CHOOSE to leave STEM. As I went through school, I watch how math and science bored women more often than men and eventually more women just ending up leaving. The real issue is elsewhere and not in a tacky shirt. I read comments from moderate people who said he should have worn a suit or lab coat and I completely disagree. Matt, as a student in the beautiful career of Physics, i can emphatise with how big of a badass (in the good sense of the word) you are, so please, dont let people who dont appreciate your work bring you down, keep up the fantastic achivements, bringing glory to the mankind as only scientists are able to do. Matt, i, as a teenager who is profoundly interested with the solar system and beyond, need to tell you that you are one of the most brilliant minds of our time and your role on the Rosetta Project will not be, ever, forgotten. Don't let malicious comments break you down, you are far more than that. You and your colleagues achieved what billions of others on this planet could not, you are far more than all of these people were calling you. You matter, for all of us, you are the first step of a giant ladder humanity may climb, you are one of the one's who made us dream about space again, you, the ESA and it's other scientists make's us all proud, we are proud of you. The world are proud of you.
